About Me | Building Digital Realism

Hi, I'm Emiliano Volpi. My passion is unlocking the potential of data and artificial intelligence to solve complex challenges and create solutions that truly work. I give it shape through Digital Realism: my personal approach to building robust, scalable AI systems and applications that deliver tangible and powerful results in the real world.

My solid foundation in Data Science, Data Engineering, and Cloud Computing (especially on GCP and Azure) allows me to build end-to-end data pipelines and develop intelligent models. I dive deep into applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), with strong experience in Computer Vision (from image analysis to computer vision training model) and Natural Language Processing (including advanced techniques with LLMs and RAG).

I enjoy merging my deep technical expertise with a strategic vision, approaching each project with a human touch and focusing on impact. This combination allows me to apply technology to solve specific problems in diverse domains, from Cloud resource optimization to unique areas like biomedical sport sciences, applying AI and Computer Vision for data and image analysis. I am always focused on practical application and how technology can generate measurable results that make a real difference.

From Critical Thought to Real Action.

My 'Digital Realism' isn't just about building; it's about applying critical lenses (inspired by authors like Mark Fisher or Franco "Bifo" Berardi) to understand the social and human implications of technology. I translate this understanding into action: designing solutions that address real-world problems, beyond just the technical surface.

Principles of Digital Realism | Values and Vision

Robust Ethics and Data Sovereignty.

Beyond regulatory compliance (data protection), I apply a deep ethical approach to data management. I understand the power and risks of data and algorithmic systems (as Éric Sadin points out regarding algocracy) and design architectures that prioritize privacy, transparency, and user control, ensuring responsible use to empower, not control.

Conscious Digital Footprint.

I consider technology's dual impact on our environment: its direct environmental footprint (cloud energy consumption) and its 'digital ecology' (sustainability of attention, avoiding saturation). I actively seek efficient, optimized, and conscious solutions that contribute to a healthier digital and planetary ecosystem.

Human Impact, Not Just Metrics.

I reject technology focused solely on monetization or abstract metrics. I prioritize tangible positive impact on people's lives, designing systems that enhance well-being, facilitate connection, and have a clear social purpose beyond immediate profit.

Digital Resilience

My work in robust data engineering, scalable cloud architectures, and MLOps seeks to offer points of stability in this fluid environment, building reliable digital systems that can adapt and endure, resisting planned obsolescence and the fragility inherent in speed.

Prototyping Alternative Futures.

I use my technical skills to prototype and build visions of how technology could be used in an emancipatory and creative way, exploring new narratives and possibilities for Digital Realism.
